Your Final Dress Fitting
Ordering Your Dress
Because we are all, fortunately or unfortunately, not the exact same body
size and shape, wedding dresses are made to meet particular measurements and
then altered to provide you, the bride, with the best fit for your shape. If you
order your dress from a bridal shop, the consultant will most likely take your
measurements, compare them to the standard measurements from the manufacturer,
and order the corresponding size. It is safer to order the size corresponding to
your largest measurement; other sections of the dress can be taken in but
generally not let out (or not let out very much). A blue faced bride would not
be particularly attractive in the pictures!
Fittings
Once the dress arrives at the shop, you will schedule several fittings. Your
final fitting will likely take place anywhere from several weeks
to a month before the wedding. Some of this scheduling will depend on whether
you plan to have a formal portrait taken and when that needs to be done. When
you arrive at the shop for the final fitting, be sure to have in hand your
wedding shoes (or a very similar pair in terms of heel height) and wedding
undergarments. If possible, you may also want to style your hair as it will be
for the wedding to see the full ensemble while there is still some time to
change things.
Fun, Fun, Fun
Dress fittings are a fun opportunity to involve your mother, future
mother-in-law, maid/matron of honor, or other close friend in the excitement
leading up to your day. In addition to admiring your choice of dress, this
individual can take pictures of the fitting which make wonderful souvenirs of
the pre-wedding planning and events.
