Your Good News in Print!
As with your engagement announcement, check with the society or lifestyle
editor of the papers in which you plan to announce your wedding for any forms or
guidelines for the announcement. Ask about deadlines as well; although most
papers will require at least one week before printing the announcement, others
may require a longer lead time. In general, the information
included in the announcement is similar to that in the engagement
announcement.
Information
If the paper does not have a prepared form, type your announcement on a
standard sheet of 8 1/2" x 11" paper, double-spaced, using other announcements
in that paper as a guideline for information to be included. In the upper right
hand corner of the page, provide your name, address and phone (or that of
someone else who could verify the information) and in the upper left corner, the
date on which you would like the announcement published.
Photos
If you'd like to include a photo with your announcement, send a glossy print
of either the bride alone (her formal wedding portrait if one was done) or, more
commonly today, the bride and groom together. Include a typed line with your
name on the back of the photo in case it is separated from the announcement.
Publication
The announcement is usually published the day following the wedding, although
it may also be some time after the wedding as well. It is helpful to ask if the
paper has any requirements about time limits, as well as to call the paper after
mailing the announcement to confirm they received it and the information is all
that is needed.
As with your engagement announcement, be sure to buy lots of papers when
the wedding announcement is printed! If you will be away on a honeymoon, ask a
family member or friend to stock up for you.
