Wording Your Announcements
How to Tell Everyone Your Good News...
The engagement and wedding announcements printed in the newspaper contain as
much or as little information as you would like concerning you, your fiance, and
your marriage plans.
The Engagement Announcement
The engagement announcement will, at a minimum, include your and your
fiance's full names, hometowns, and intended wedding date. Generally, this
information is introduced by way of your parents' names, for example, Mr. and
Mrs. John Smith of Washington, DC, have the pleasure of announcing the
engagement of their daughter, Mary Elizabeth, to Mr. Jack Jones, son of Dr. and
Mrs. Edward Jones of Boston, Massachusetts. The announcement may also
include information on any higher education, current employment, and the
intended date of the wedding, for example, a spring (or May) wedding is
planned.
The Wedding Announcement
The wedding announcement may repeat this basic information from the
engagement announcement, but will also likely include information on time and
place of the wedding, officiant's name, names of attendants, description of
dresses and flowers, reception and honeymoon location, and new place of
residence, for example, following a trip to the Bahamas, Mr. and Mrs. Jones
will reside in Bethesda, MD.
