Types of Bouquets

As with most other aspects of your wedding, you have great latitude in choosing a bouquet to complement your wedding gown, style of wedding, and personal preferences. Below are some common arrangement descriptions. Review your plans with your florist to determine which would be best for the big day.

Arrangement
Description
Biedermeier Smaller nosegay with a particular type of flower and color forming concentric rings.
Boa A fancy stole made of blossoms and greenery wired together. No bouquet would generally be carried if a boa is worn.
Bouquet Clust of blooms sunk inside a plastic bouquet holder. Comes in many shapes and sizes.
Cascade With an oasis acting as a support base, a bouquet in which blooms and greenery gracefully cascade down from the oasis.
Composite A full, fancy blossom on a single stem made from individual petals or a cluster of blooms that are wired or glued together.
Nosegay Round burst of flowers, smaller ones are called posies. Generally anchored in a bouquet holder or hand tied with ribbons. Dates back to Victorian times when women carried them to social events.
Pomander A pretty blossom-covered globe that hangs from and is carried by a satin ribbon. Often used for child attendants.
Tussie-mussie Bouquet of flowers chosen for their symbolic meaning. Generally hand tied with stems cut to a comfortable carrying length and wrapped with ribbon. May be carried as is or placed in a Victorian-era silver, cone-shaped holder.
Wired Bouquet-type arrangement in which each flower is wired or attached to a filament of green-taped wire to stand upright before being gathered together.
