Cotton or Wood Pulp?

Material

Good thing we're talking about papers here and not wedding clothing! Traditionally, the best wedding invitations are engraved on cotton paper. Indeed, cotton paper has been in use for over 2000 years, whereas the more common wood pulp paper has only been used for approximately 100 years. Not surprisingly, cotton paper does not decompose as does the wood pulp; hence, you could keep your invitations forever! The weight of the paper is also an option. In general, the better papers are of 40 pound weight, meaning that 500 sheets of the paper weigh 40 pounds.

Color

If you are having a very traditional and/or very formal wedding, you will probably choose a white or off-white paper for your invitation. If you are having a less formal/traditional wedding, you may choose any color.

Style

More traditional wedding invitation papers come in two basic styles: plain or paneled. The paneled paper has a raised panel running around all four sides of the invitation; in general, this is better with a print script. Plain paper is traditionally better suited for a script type. Again, this relates primarily to the more formal and traditional weddings; if you are having a less formal or non-traditional wedding, you can choose any type of design for your invitation.
