When Do I Say, "I Do?"
The content of marriage ceremonies vary depending on where you will be
married, your officiant, and your religious affiliation (if any). However, most
ceremonies include the following key elements, each of which can be adapted to
create a very personalized
service. The extent to which each element can be altered should be discussed
with your officiant ahead of time to ensure you stay within any religious or
other guidelines.
Processional:
Here comes the bride...and the rest of the wedding party.
Giving
the Bride Away: A teary moment no matter how you choose to handle it.
Welcome: Usually given by the officiant, once everyone in the
processional has taken his/her
place at the altar.
Giving
Away of the Bride: By her father, both parents, another close male friend or
family member (or can be omitted).
Vows: The
big moment...usually groom before bride.
Exchange of Rings: Another big moment...again, usually groom gives
bride her ring first.
Recessional:
Out goes the happy couple... and the crowd goes wild!
Receiving
Line: Welcome to our party!!
Each religious denomination includes many more elements in the marriage
ceremony, some of which may be personalized by you and your groom.
